Joseph Friel graduated from the University of Notre Dame where he studied electrical engineering before entering active duty with the US Air Force. His specialties include communications systems and simulator design. He is currently a program manager at Avidyne where he is responsible for internal research and development programs for legacy displays and sensor systems. In addition, he functions as the Release 9 Customer Care manager, assisting new owners with the installation delivery of their R9 equipped airplanes. Joseph remains active in the Massachusetts Air National Guard as an engineer in a communications unit. He took his first flight at 6 weeks old and has been flying airplanes ever since. Joseph received his private pilot’s license as a senior in high school near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his flight instructor certificate as a senior in college. He has flown all over the United States and Canada and especially enjoys mountain flying in Colorado. He has 1500 hours in over 25 different aircraft and enjoys teaching others about his passion for aviation.
