CMax™ Charts

CMax for Entegra

CMax™ Approach Charts, Avidyne’s innovative implementation of this electronic chart capability, displays approach charts and airport diagrams with an overlay of the pilot’s flight plan and present position. CMax provides on-demand access to the worldwide library of JeppView electronic charts and airport diagrams and dramatically improves the pilot's ability to manage cumbersome paper charts.

CMax improves safety and it’s easy to use.

CMax for Entegra

Easily load approach charts for your destination using the “auto fill” button, or easily browse and select charts for any airport in the database. CMax shows aircraft position and flight plan right on the approach chart making it much easier to visualize your location throughout the approach. Critical obstacles and terrain are displayed for added safety. As the aircraft ground speed drops below 40kts, CMax automatically switches the display from the approach procedure chart to the airport diagram.

CMax improves surface navigation.

CMax for Entegra

CMax’s detailed airport diagrams show runways and taxi ways, which is especially useful when operating on unfamiliar airports. CMax™ eliminates the need for “progressive taxi instructions,” and makes it easier to find a particular FBO or parking area.

CMax improves incursion awareness.

CMax shows “Runway Incursion Hotspots.” These are areas on certain airports designated by the FAA where ground control may have limited visibility or where there is high traffic flow or other known history of incursion activity.

CMax improves chart management.

CMax makes managing and accessing flight critical information more efficient, while eliminating the need to file traditional revision updates in Airway Manuals. Jeppesen sends Avidyne customers periodic CD-ROM updates which are loaded onto a personal computer to display and print charts while on the ground, and transferred through the FlightMax dataloader for updates in the airplane.

CMax™ uses Jeppesen’s JeppView Electronic Airway Manual chart service to reduce the amount of paper required on the flight decks of Avidyne-equipped aircraft. In addition, CMax makes managing and accessing flight critical information more efficient, while eliminating the need for pilots to file traditional revision updates in their Airway Manuals. Jeppesen will send Avidyne customers periodic CD-ROM updates which are loaded onto a personal computer to display and print charts while on the ground, and transferred through the FlightMax dataloader or USB Flash Drive if you have Release 6 or higher for updates in the airplane.

Important Note: CMax electronic charts will not be displayed on the EX500 or EX5000 if you haven’t updated your electronic charts in the last ten weeks. Jeppesen provides an electronic charts update every two weeks to CMax subscribers. It is highly recommended that you keep your electronic charts current by regularly updating your EX500 or EX5000 with the latest update from Jeppesen. Charts Updates are available through Jeppesen at: http://www.jeppesen.com/.

What is included in the CMax subscription?
The CMax subscription contains all of the terminal area charts for the given coverage area, identical to the charts contained in a paper chart subscription. Chart types include arrival procedures, departure procedures, airport diagrams, instrument approach procedures, and other miscellaneous terminal charts.

I already have a Jeppesen subscription for my navigation database. Do I need to get a new subscription?
Yes, the CMax database is separate from the navigation database. Therefore, it needs to be obtained and loaded independently. Both databases are purchased from Jeppesen.

Would I be able to print out paper copies of the approaches?
Yes, this can be done using Jeppesen’s Jeppview application on your PC.

When do CMax charts expire?
CMax electronic charts will not be displayed on the EX5000 if you haven’t updated your electronic charts in the last ten weeks. Jeppesen provides an electronic charts update every two weeks to CMax subscribers. It is highly recommended that you keep your electronic charts current by regularly updating your EX5000 with the latest update from Jeppesen.

How do I upload CMAX updates to my MFD?
First you must run the Avidyne CMax Data Extractor on your PC, to copy your chart data from the Jeppesen CD-ROM onto your Avidyne Data Loader. Then take your Avidyne Data Loader to your aircraft, plug the Data Loader into the MFD data port and power-up the MFD. The MFD will automatically detect the Data Loader and present the Chart Data Loader screen. Press Proceed to begin the dataload process. When complete, unplug and store the Avidyne Data Loader. For more information, see the Avidyne CMax Data Update Instructions manual.

What is a CMax KeyCode? Why do I need an KeyCode?
An Avidyne KeyCode is a unique number that ties a particular Jeppesen chart data subscription to a particular Avidyne FlightMax MFD. You will not be able to load any chart data into your MFD without an Avidyne KeyCode for your MFD.

Where do I get my CMax KeyCode?
Get your CMax KeyCode from www.myAvidyne.com. If you are not already registered with myAvidyne.com, you will have to register to gain access through your account. To get your CMax KeyCode, you will need to know your Avidyne MFD unit serial number and also your Jeppesen serial number (subscription number).

Do I have to get a new CMax KeyCode for each update?
No. Your CMax KeyCode is good as long as your Jeppesen Serial Number and your MFD unit serial number remain the same. If for some reason one of these numbers changes in the future, you will have to return to myAvidyne.com and receive a new CMax KeyCode.

I have two airplanes with MFD units; can I share one CMax subscription?
It is not possible to use a CMax subscription for more than one MFD unit. Please contact Jeppesen for subscription questions. All CMax data subscriptions are handled through Jeppesen.

I already have JeppView on my home computer; can I extend it to my MFD?
Please contact Jeppesen for subscription questions. All CMax data subscriptions are handled through Jeppesen

I am on FlexCare; do I automatically receive CMax updates?
CMax data subscriptions are handled by Jeppesen. For this reason, no CMax updates will be provided by Avidyne.

When attempting a data load to my EX5000 MFD, I get a message about serial numbers not matching and the data will not load. Why is that?
Verify that you entered the proper CMax KeyCode when running the CMax Data Extractor. If necessary, return to myAvidyne.com and re-confirm your CMax KeyCode. Remember that a Jeppesen subscription will only work with one particular serial number MFD.

The CMax data extractor says I have an invalid Jeppesen serial number. What should I do?
Double check that you have properly typed in your Jeppesen serial number. If the problem persists, contact Jeppesen customer service.

How do I know if my CMax charts are current?
The validity dates of your CMax chart data is shown on the initialization page on every power-up, and also on the MFD Setup Page.
